Process Engineering Co-Op at DuPont

I was a process engineering co-op in the Polymerics department of DuPont's Electronic & Industrial site in Newark, DE from February 2024 - August 2024. This site was focused on Chemical & Mechanical Planarization (CMP) technologies - analogous to sandpaper for semiconductors. I designed and participated in multiple continuous improvement projects aligning with the Polymerics and R&D teams. Read more about these projects and the opportunities I participated in  below:

Continuous Improvement Projects

Below are three projects I completed during my co-op. These serve as an example of the work I was doing as a process enginering intern:

Raw Material Heating Optimization

I designed and implemented oven heating trials to optimize raw material heating. I worked to decrease utility costs by 80% and increase the production equipment's overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) by decreasing total heating time for all relevant materials

Pressure Transmitter Qualification

Analyzed debris removal at grooving machines and proposed the implementation of 8 in-line pressure transmitters to decrease pressure related product defects. Modeled all pipe connections in SolidWorks. Created P&IDs of all manufacturing floors. 

Correlated Downstream Defects on Product Templates (LSS Yellow Belt)

Worked with a team of 6 process engineers to obtain data on template defects across departments before correlating to potential customer facing defects. Created a dashboard in JMP by combining data from 3 SQL databases.
